Obituary of Jeanne K. Ghent
Please share a memory of Jeanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeanne Kilpatrick Ghent passed away peacefully January 24, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born June 2, 1931 in New York City and was the youngest of William C. and Ella Ford Kilpatrick's five children.
Jeanne was an award-winning English Professor at Monroe Community College (MCC) in Rochester, NY from 1971 until 1997. Prior to this, she was a high school teacher for 15 years in Rochester and Brooklyn, NY. Her 41-year teaching career was a labor of love – a living affirmation of the values instilled in her as a child, centering on the notion that education is the key to success.
She was married to Dr. James A. Ghent, Jr. for 55 years until he passed away in 2016. They owned and operated a small horse farm in Churchville, NY for over 25 years. She is survived by three adoring children: 1 daughter Elizabeth (Nyron) Ghent Prescod; 2 sons, James A. Ghent III (Shirley McCown) and Jonathan F. (Katie) Ghent; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and a host of friends.
Friends may call Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Church of the Epiphany, 3285 Buffalo Rd, Rochester, NY 14624. Additional calling hour will be Saturday from 10 AM – 11 AM at the same location, immediately followed by a funeral service to celebrate her life. Entombment will be at White Haven Memorial Park following the service.
Donations may be made to the Shepherd Home, a non-profit organization that provides hospice care to serve the terminally ill and their families: http://www.shepherdhome.org/Contribute.aspx or 585-381-0890.
