Prayers and condolences to the Drayton family from the Late Isell and Mamie Witherspoon family of Sumter, South Carolina. We are a family that has been connected to Mrs. Drayton (aka Ms. Gook to us) and her Mom Mrs. Georgia Nero, from early childhood. Our brother, Bubba, recalls Ms. Gook being a very caring and loving classmate at Bracey School that took care of him and his sisters Ola and Lucille as they walked to school in the cold. She carefully led them one by one over a deep stream of water on logs to safety. Sister Lucille recalls the loving letters that Ms. Gook sent to her Mother Nero over the years because she had the pleasure of reading them to her and responding by writing letters back. Ms. Gook’s son, Sammie (our Godbrother) spent his childhood in Sumter. He grew up with the rest of the siblings (Big Sam, Ida, Bernice, Connie, and Pat) playing games such as marbles, catching June bugs, imitating the Rifle Man, and eating homegrown family meals on the farm. Such wonderful memories. Ms. Gook planted a legacy seed of love and caring in Sumter, SC, and surely in her hometowns in NY that will sprout for generations to come. We love this beautiful family.

I will ALWAYS treasure the times we spent together, which were many. We were tighter than a pair of shoes 5 sizes too small. I will forever treasure the wisdom and knowledge she always displayed.
