Obituary of Deacon Herbert U. Spotford

ROCHESTER, NY – December 13, 2023 Herbert U. Spotford, age 81, made his transition from earth to glory to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 1:41 am. Born in Tampa, Florida on November 12, 1942 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Walter Spotford. He moved with his family to Rochester, NY at age 12, he attended East High School. It was in Rochester where he met and married Betty Daniels. They had nine children. He was employed with Rochester Psychiatric Center and retired after 35 years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1993 at Jesus Christ Temple House of Prayer under the leadership of his son-in-law, Bishop Rick Hepburn Sr., where he served faithfully as a deacon until his health declined. Herbert was an ordinary individual. It didn't take much to please him. He enjoyed sports, eating his favorite snack -- honey buns and drinking milk: and occasionally going to McDonald's for his favorite sandwich -- a McDouble with mayonnaise and cheese! He also enjoyed family prayer at home and praying together on road trips! He loved his family. We will deeply miss him! He is predeceased by: three brothers, Walter Jr., Charles, and George Spotford; and three sons, Richard, Darryl, and Gregory Spotford. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Spotford; his sons, Herbert Jr., Waymon (LaShawda); four daughters, Maritha, Adrianne (Rick), Ann Levette of Fort Pierce, FL, and Denise; two daughters-in-law, Shirell and Lisa; his sister, Yvonne Ryan of Tampa, FL; brothers, James and Walter III; sisters-in-law, Clementine Spotford and Evangelist Gwendolyn Hicks; a host of loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Calling hours will be Saturday, December 30 from 11:00 – 12:00 PM at Greater Works Deliverance Center, 1089 Joseph Avenue, Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will immediately follow with Pastor Terrance Simmons Sr., Officiating. Interment Falls Cemetery, Greece, NY.
