Obituary of James Smith Jr.

ROCHESTER, NY – September 2, 2023 - US Airforce Veteran Mr. Smith Jr. was born April 10, 1935 in Williston, FL. He is the son of the late James Smith Sr. and the late Isabella (McNeill) Smith. He married Emma L. Kendrick. He served in the US Airforce. He was the owner of J&E Grocery in Rochester, New York. James Smith Jr. passed away September 2, 2023 at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife; Emma L. Smith. He leaves two daughters, Carolyn Marshall and Yvonne Smith; four grandchildren, Maurice and Greg Marshall, Gerard Graham, Da’Vonne (Jimmy) Hamilton; three great grandchildren, Bryson and Gabriella Mitchell, Jimmy Hamilton Jr.; one brother, Jimmy (Marie) Smith and a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Scholarship Fund in memory of James Smith Jr. 141 Adams Street, Rochester, NY 14608. Friends may call Friday, September 29 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Saturday, September 30 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 141 Adams Street, Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 141 Adams Street, Rochester, NY with Rev. Dr. Rickey B. Harvey, officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rochester, NY.
