Obituary of A'chaz Shaheed Walker
Please share a memory of A'chaz to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rochester, NY - July 30, 2023
A’chaz Shaheed Walker Sr. was born Friday, November 13, 1987 at 3:25 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, New York.
A’chaz attended T.J. Connor and Lewis H. Morgan School No. 37. He went on to attend Madison Junior High and Edison Tech, where he played football. His course of study was Automotive Engineering. The first toy A’chaz received from his mother was a car, and cars have been his life ever since. His love for cars led him to attend special classes with GMAC and Delco through which he won several awards at a young age.
A’chaz began attending the Baden Street Program at the age of 13 and successfully completed all four years of the program. The program taught and instilled in A’chaz an exceptional work ethic, and he has worked ever since. He also furthered his education by attending Monroe Community College and Bryant & Stratton College.
In 2006, a son was born to A’chaz and Tiffany. At that point, A’chaz left college to work and support his family. He obtained a position at Hill Haven Nursing Home, but A’chaz’s love for cars would not let him remain in that position. He pursued his passion and became a mechanic at Walmart, a position he held for five years. As he continued to climb the ladder, he became the first black manager at Mavis in Western New York. It would appear A’chaz was following in the footsteps of his grandfather whom he never met. His grandfather made history in Rochester as owning and operating the first black-owned Mobil Gas Station worldwide, and he did this at the peak of the Civil Rights Movement. As A’chaz continued to excel in his own field, he climbed to the position of Store Manager of Jiffy Lube on East Ridge Road.
Aside from the automotive accolades he received, all A’chaz’s awards could not compare to his obsession for limited edition sneakers, tattoos, gold, cologne collections, and custom vehicles.
A’chaz was loved by many as demonstrated by his candlelight vigil. He gained his wings on July 30, 2023, and was pronounced dead at 7:48 p.m.
He leaves to mourn his loss but cherish fond memories: his son, A’chaz S. Walker Jr.; his mother, Patricia Walker; his sisters, Shukriyyah Walker and Melinda Greeen; brother, Keith Keaton; niece, Aa’liyyah "Chipmunk" walker and bonus children: Damiere, Isabelle, and Jozlyn. He also leaves his life partner, Evelyn; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
