Obituary of Brian K Banks

ROCHESTER, NY – August 16, 2019 Mr. Banks was born May 14, 1959 in Rochester, NY. Brian grew up in the 8th Ward in the Atkins, Adams and Champlain Street area, where most of his mother, Shirley Ann Banks' family lived. When he was a little boy, he attended family gatherings and liked to play softball, board games, cards and kickball. Brian was best known for his contagious laugh. He was a free-spirited young man attending West High School for Middle School and then Madison High School. Upon leaving Madison, Brian joined the United States Army where he served 4 years. After coming home from the service Brian worked for the City of Rochester for some time. He also worked at Eastman Kodak and his last place of employment was the United States Postal Service as a mail sorter. In his later years, Brian spent a lot of time on the Rock. One of his favorite past times was sitting on the rock at the corner of Merrimac Street and Portland Ave., where he talked to friends and family as they passed by. Everyone remembers the Rock. He is predeceased by: his Mother, Shirley Banks; two daughters, Brianne Banks and Fabrianna Whine. He is survived by: his wife, Linda Strickland-Banks; his daughter, Chelsea Whine of Raleigh, NC; 3 loving step children, Robert (Erika), Tekesha and Terrence Lowry; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Steven (Linda) Banks and David (Antionette) Coleman; 1 sister, Ronora S. Banks-James; 1 nephew and 3 nieces and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews; two aunts, Carrie Radford, all of Rochester, NY and Rose Burke of Hereford, AZ; several brothers and sisters-in-law and a special brother/friend Walt Devine. Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life will be held Thursday, August 22, 6:00 PM at the Latimer Chapel, 983 South Plymouth Avenue, Rochester, NY. Interment at the convenience of the family.
